TO for 22.02 Fresh windslab developing on N to E to S aspects above 700m. Old snowpack firm and well bonded. Avalanche Hazard Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: The patchy older snowpack will firm up overnight as the temperature lowers, improving stability further. Later, isolated shallow deposits of fresh windslab will develop during the day on North through East to South aspects above 700 metres. Areas most affected will be wind sheltered locations such as coire rims and ridge flanks, especially where deposits gain depth over the existing firm snow patches. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: During the evening there will be rain to summit levels. This will turn to sleet, then snow overnight as the freezing level lowers to around 700 metres. Snow showers will be lighter during the morning, becoming more persistent, again in the afternoon. Gale force South-Westerly winds during the evening will ease in strength and veer overnight, to become fresh North-Westerlies for the daytime. Observed Weather Influences: It has been a cloudy and wet day with rainfall at summit levels, there were some brighter periods with occasional showers later. Winds were gale force South-Westerly. The freezing level was above the summits. ObservedSnowStability: The old and patchy snowpack continues to thaw and diminish in the milder conditions. It is well bonded and generally stable. The greatest accumulations remain on North to East aspects above 800 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
