Avalanche Activity

In the regions exposed to the foehn wind above approximately 2200 m danger level 2 (moderate) will be reached.

The fresh snow as well as the wind slabs represent the main danger. The danger of dry avalanches will increase during the day, reaching danger level 2 (moderate). This applies in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation especially at intermediate and high altitudes. In the course of the day sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs will form in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. This applies in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack in particular above approximately 2200 m.

Snowpack Structure

Stormy weather and new snow to intermediate altitudes. Above approximately 1700 m snow will fall today in particular in the regions exposed to the foehn wind. Over a wide area less snow than usual is lying. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
