The most dangerous slopes are where you encounter stiff, wind-drifted snow on north through east to southeast-facing slopes near and above treeline. Here, you can trigger an avalanche that could grow large enough to bury you. Seek wind-sheltered terrain where the snow is soft, and your feet or machine sink deep into the snow for safe options.
