Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on steep slopes where observe around eight inches or more of wind-drifted snow. You are most likely to find areas of drifted snow below ridgelines, around rock outcroppings, and on the sides of gullies. An avalanche could take you on a nasty ride into shallowly-covered rocky terrain. Avoid steep slopes where you find dense, hollow-feeling new snow. Cracking in the snow surface, or recent avalanche activity are signs of avalanche danger in the area.
