If you were to trigger an avalanche, it would be in a stiff slab of snow in steep, rocky terrain. Slopes that face north to east in the alpine are most susceptible to avalanches. Recent winds sculpted the snow surface, making it easy to spot and avoid the stiff drifts by looking for pillowy or textured snow surfaces.
