A generally favourable avalanche situation will prevail.

The somewhat older wind slabs can still be released in some cases. These avalanche prone locations are to be found especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain, especially on steep north facing slopes. The wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence in terrain where there is a danger of falling. Avalanches can additionally in very isolated cases be released in the old snowpack in particular on little used shady slopes. Extremely slopes are to be traversed by snow sport participants one at a time.

Snowpack From the Bernese Oberland into the Alpstein region as well as from the Prättigau into the Samnaun, there is still loosely-packed snow on the ground in wind-protected shady zones at heightened altitudes more than anywhere else. In the remaining regions of Switzerland the snowpack surface shows pronounced effects from wind and sun over widespread areas. On the northern flank of the Alps there are expansively metamorphosed (faceted) layers deeply embedded inside the snow cover in some places on north-facing slopes. In the southern Valais and in Grisons on north-facing slopes, in addition, the entire old snow cover is expansively metamorphosed (faceted) over far-reaching areas. Nevertheless, avalanche triggerings in these deeply embedded layers inside the snowpack have been registered only very seldom during the last two weeks. Snow depths in the Swiss Alps continue to be far below average. In the recordings at measurement stations in flat terrain at heightened altitudes, they measure only approximately half the customary snow depths. Fresh snow - Temperature At midday at 2000 m, -2 °C in the northern regions and 0 °C in the southern regions. Wind Winds were blowing predominantly at light strength from northeasterly directions. Weather forecast through Saturday, 04.03.2023 Nocturnal skies are expected to be clear. On Saturday it will be sunny above the high fogbanks (ceiling between 1400 and 1800 m). Fresh snow - Temperature At midday at 2000 m, -2 °C in the northern regions and +1 °C in the southern regions. Wind Winds will be blowing predominantly at light strength, intermittently at moderate velocity in the high-alpine regions, from northerly to northeasterly directions. Outlook through Monday, 06.03.2023 On Sunday in the mountains it will be sunny in the northern regions above the high fogbanks (ceiling between 1500 and 2000 m). On Monday in the northern regions it will be sunny to start with. Subsequently clouds will move in. In the southern regions skies will be predominantly overcast. From place to place in the Prealps, as well as on the southern flank of the Alps, a small amount of snowfall is possible. Avalanche danger levels are expected to remain predominantly favourable.
