An Avalanche Watch is in effect for the Elkhead and Flat Top. The area is expected to reach very dangerous avalanche conditions by Thursday morning.
Dangerous conditions will start to develop on Wednesday. Upper-elevation slopes where storm snow is drifted into thicker slabs will be the most dangerous. Look for and avoid steep, drifted slopes that face northwest through east to south. Lens-shaped pillows of snow below ridges and at the top of steep gullies are likely places to trigger a slide. Cracking in the storm snow and audible collapses are indications to avoid steep slopes. Look for slopes less than about 35 degrees as a safer option.
