At the high elevations, pockets of dense surface slabs with depths to two feet could be triggered in very steep wind loaded avalanche terrain. Avalanches are unlikely at the mid and low elevations this morning in the mostly stable snowpack. As warm temperatures and sunlight weaken the snowpack today wet slides will become possible this afternoon. Yesterday afternoon the Cow of the Woods slide released naturally and put snow on the road in Hoback Canyon.

Temperatures are to reach below freezing Friday night at all elevations. On Saturday the next system should impact the area bringing a mix of snow and rain. Mountain temperatures should reach into the upper thirties as the snow develops. Winds are to be southwesterly with fifteen to twenty mile per hour averages.During the morning, the general avalanche hazard will be Low in the generally stable snowpack. By the afternoon the hazard will rise to Moderate as warming temperatures and possible morning sun soften the hard snow surface providing the chance to trigger dense slabs to two foot depths in very steep terrain above 9000 feet and for the possibility of wet slide activity at all elevations.
