Wind-drifted features near and above treeline are the most dangerous. Look for and avoid recently drifted slabs in northerly or easterly-facing gullies or below ridgelines. Southerly-facing terrain or slopes with no signs of recent drifting avoid this problem.
On wind-sheltered slopes steeper than about 40 degrees, that face west through north to east, you'll find a soft and weak snow surface that you can easily push as a loose avalanche. Avoid travel above terrain traps where debris could pile up.
