Avalanche Activity

Due to warmth, expected naturally triggered moist avalanches. Fresh drifts mostly in high alpine regions.

Due to moistening of the recent fresh snow, numerous small-to-medium naturally triggered wet-snow avalanches can be expected even during the morning. Also glide-snow avalanches can be expected to trigger naturally. Caution urged wherever there are glide-cracks in all aspects. Avalanches can in isolated cases fracture down to deeper layers inside the snowpack and then sweep away the entire snowpack. 

Snowpack Structure

The recent fresh snow and foehn-induced snowdrift accumulations have further settled. Rising temperatures and solar radiation tomorrow will moisten the fresh snow, further reduce the firmness of the snowpack up so high alpine regions on sunny slopes, up to high altitudes on shady slopes. At intermediate altitudes the old snow is thoroughly wet, below 1400 m there is little snow on the ground. Particularly on high-altitude shady slopes the near-surface layers are still prone to triggering, mostly by large additional loading.

Weather Synopsis

Nocturnal hours: as of midnight cloudbanks will move in. Saturday: dry, surging temperatures at all altitudes, not much wind, adequate visibility. At 2000m: 2-8 degrees. Light westerly winds.

Tendency

On Sunday, cloudy skies to start with, only occasionally dispersed clouds. Showers can be expected during the daytime, the snowfall level will descend to 2200 m. Danger of dry-snow avalanches will not change much. Wet-snow avalanche danger persists.
