Forecast Snow Stability: Localised accumulations of fresh unstable windslab will develop gradually on steep North to East aspects above 850 metres. These areas are not expected to be particularly deep or extensive with gullies and tops of slopes being most affected. Cornices will begin to develop in these locations. The existing snowpack will be well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Showers will fall snow above 800 metres with more snow expected further inland. Strong West-South-West winds will back South-Westerly and decrease in strength slightly during the day. The freezing level will be around 800 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Showers were initially snow above 650 metres turning to rain at all levels during the afternoon. The freezing level rose above the summits. Winds were moderate South-Easterly. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is thawing but generally well consolidated and stable. Some minor wet snow surface instabilities exist on steep North to East aspects above 900 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
