Avalanche Activity

The new snow represents the main danger. In some localities up to 70 cm of snow fell in the last two days above approximately 2500 m.

In some localities 5 to 15 cm of snow will fall above approximately 2200 m. In particular on steep shady slopes the avalanches can be released in deep layers of the snowpack and reach large size. Exposed parts of transportation routes can be endangered occasionally above approximately 1900 m. The current avalanche situation calls for extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger. In all aspects a considerable avalanche danger will persist in some cases. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided as far as possible.

Snowpack Structure

The old snowpack is wet and its surface has a crust that is not capable of bearing a load. The new snow is lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack on shady slopes above approximately 2000 m. The new snow can be released easily or naturally in all aspects above the tree line. Avalanches can be released in deeper layers also.

Tendency

Some snow will fall on Saturday. Considerable avalanche danger will prevail.
