Wet snow
- Above 2,000 m
New snow and wet snow represent the main danger.
New snow and wet snow represent the main danger.
From early morning the natural avalanche activity will gradually increase. As a consequence of rising temperatures, solar radiation and the occasionally strong northwesterly wind, the snowpack can not consolidate. Numerous medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large dry and moist avalanches are to be expected. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the high Alpine regions, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality.
From late morning the weather will be mostly sunny. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to a loss of strength within the snowpack over a wide area. Over a wide area new snow is lying on a moist old snowpack. These conditions will foster a gradual strengthening of the snowpack towards the evening in all aspects.
