Avalanche Activity

Gliding avalanches are the main danger.

The early morning will see favourable avalanche conditions generally. As the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation there will be a gradual increase in the danger of gliding avalanches to level 2 (moderate). Caution is to be exercised in areas with glide cracks.

Snowpack Structure

A great many medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large gliding avalanches have been released as the penetration by moisture increases. On Thursday it will be exceptionally warm. The snowpack will be generally moist. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will already soften in the late morning.

Tendency

Friday: Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be quite good. As the temperature drops there will be a decrease in the danger of gliding avalanches to level 1 (low).
