Forecast Snow Stability: There will be a dusting of new snow, mostly settling above 600 metres. Isolated and largely avoidable pockets of windslab will accumulate in steep wind sheltered locations, on North to North-East aspects, mainly above 800 metres. Otherwise, the old snowpack will be well bonded and stable throughout. The avalanche hazard will be Low.
Forecast Weather Influences: The strong Southerly wind will quickly moderate in the evening, veering South-West and freshening later in the afternoon. Overnight snow above 800 metres will ease into occasional light showers through the day, snow above 600 metres for a time. The freezing level will dip from 900 metres overnight to 600 metres by dawn, rising to around 800 metres by the end of the forecast period. Observed Weather Influences: Precipitation eased by mid morning, bright periods thereafter. The generally Southerly wind was persistent and strong with summit gales. The freezing level rose to around 750 metres by midday. ObservedSnowStability: There is a light dusting of fresh snow on most aspects above 750 metres. The limited old snowpack is well bonded and stable throughout, refrozen and firm at higher elevations, but continues to slowly thaw at lower levels. The avalanche hazard is Low.
