Avalanche danger is predominantly low. Avalanche prone locations occur particularly on very steep shady slopes, in high-alpine extremely high terrain. There, particularly by large additional loading, isolated weak layers in the old snowpack can trigger a small slab avalanche. Apart from the dangers of being buried in snow, the risks of being swept along and forced to take a fall require alertness. On very steep grass-covered slopes, small glide-snow avalanches continue to be possible.
Especially in high alpine regions, older snowdrift accumulations occur, their bonding to the softer old snowpack layers is often inadequate, particularly on steep shady slopes. Small to medium slab avalanches can be triggered there, either inside the layers of drifts or in the near-surface part of the snowpack. Following a night of cold clear skies the snowpack is generally compact through the morning, and stable. At low and intermediate altitudes there is not much snow on the ground. Little information is available about the snowpack itself.
Very sunny today, only high-altitude cirrus clouds and some convective cloud build-up in afternoon. The zero-degree level lies at 3000 m. At 2000 m: 0 to +7 degrees. Light N/W winds at high altitudes.
Overcast skies tonight, precipitation tomorrow morning. Poor visibility, persistent rainfall and snowfall, some of which will be heavy. The snowfall level lies at 1600 m. Avalanche danger can increase again, depending on amounts of fresh snow and wind.
