Avalanche Summary

Early season, observations are limited. Thanks for sharing your observation through the Mountain Information Network if you head out.

No new avalanches have been observed or reported. Please share your observations at bulletin@avalanchequebec.ca or via the Mountain Information Network.

Snowpack Summary

The cold temperatures of the last 24 hours will have transformed what remains of the snowpack into a thick layer of melt-freeze crust, or even an ice cake. The height of the snowpack varies between 0 and 25 cm at around 600m altitude. At and below treeline, there are several areas that are now uncovered, and there is no longer enough snow to produce avalanches at these elevations. In the alpine, depressions and concavities retain a certain amount of snow.

Weather Summary

Synopsis: A high-pressure system will pass over the Chic-Chocs over the next few days, bringing colder temperatures and northwesterly winds. Perhaps we'll be treated to a few flakes!

Wednesday evening and night: Mostly cloudy. Maximum -9C. Minimum -15C. Wind northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50.

Thursday: Cloudy. High -12C. Low -15C. Wind northwest, 20-30 km/h. 3 cm of snow.

Friday: Alternating sun and cloud. High -12C. Wind northwest, 20 to 30 km/h. 2 cm of snow.

Saturday: Alternating sun and clouds. Maximum -6C. Wind west, 10 to 20 km/h.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Travelling on skis is hazardous due to a very shallow mountain snowpack.
  • When a thick, melt-freeze surface crust is present, avalanche activity is unlikely.
