Regions: Waterton Lakes.

Little change in the snowpack or avalanche conditions. Some uncertainty on Saturday with chinook conditions possibly raising freezing levels to 1800m or higher. Very supportive midpack makes for easy travelling. Little Prairie snowpack 73cm.

Avalanche Problems

Wind Slabs

Strong west winds continue to abuse the little new snow that is available for transport. Small surface slabs up to 15cms thick have been deposited on isolated lee terrain features, and may be triggered by an unwary traveller.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 2

Deep Persistent Slabs

The basal weakness is bridged with dense snow in most locations, and is showing signs of strengthening. Continuing mild temperatures and increasing snow depth should help this process but lingering potential for large avalanches remains.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Unlikely - Possible

Expected Size: 2 - 4
