The wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence above approximately 2200 m. Significant increase in danger of moist avalanches in the course of the day.
The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can be released very easily in all aspects above approximately 2200 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and in the vicinity of peaks. In many cases the avalanches in these loacations are medium-sized. Especially rather lightly snow-covered shady slopes high altitudes: In isolated cases avalanches can be released in the old snowpack and reach dangerously large size. Steep sunny slopes: As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation more frequent moist avalanches are to be expected, even medium-sized ones. Gliding avalanches can also occur at any time.
The weather will be mostly sunny. Over a wide area wind slabs are lying on soft layers. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. The solar radiation will give rise as the day progresses to significant moistening of the snowpack on steep sunny slopes below approximately 2200 m. At intermediate altitudes there are 150 to 220 cm of snow, and even more in some localities.
Thursday: Rapid increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of new snow and strong wind.
