Regions

Kananaskis, Bow Valley, Highwood Pass, North 40, Spray - KLakes.

Warm temps with a mix of sun and cloud on Saturday. Thin steep areas are the still main places to be thinking about avalanches and consequence. Avoid these thin areas. Great temps for ice climbing!

Confidence

High

  • We are confident due to a stable weather pattern.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches have been observed or reported in a few days.

Snowpack Summary

The upper snowpack has weakened due to faceting earlier in week. In some places this has brought the skiing back to life, and in others its making for breakable conditions as old slabs weaken. Thankfully, this weakening is limited to the near surface snow and the thick mid pack remains supportive. Deeper trouble layers are still there, but for the most part they are deep enough to be bridged by the midpack.

Thin weak areas are where you may be able trigger the deeper layers in steeper terrain. Be always thinking consequence in these areas.

Weather Summary

Mix of sun and cloud with unfortunately no new precipitation. Winds will be moderate out of the west with a freezing level around 2100m and day time highs at treeline around -2.
