Avalanche Activity

Wind and new snow: The avalanche danger will already exist in the early morning.

In isolated cases avalanches can be released in deep layers reach medium size on very steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes. These avalanche prone locations are barely recognisable, even to the trained eye, caution is to be exercised in areas where the snow cover is rather shallow,, this also applies in places that are protected from the wind. In addition the rather small wind slabs of Thursday are capable of being triggered in some cases. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, in particular on very steep slopes.

Snowpack Structure

15 to 20 cm of snow, but less in some localities, fell in the last few days above approximately 2000 m. 10 to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall on Thursday above approximately 1800 m, in particular in the regions neighbouring those that are subject to danger level 3 (considerable). In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on a weakly bonded old snowpack. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack in all aspects. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. At low and intermediate altitudes less snow than usual is lying. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas and at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions a little snow is lying.

Tendency

Slight increase in danger as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation.
