Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of the moderate to strong northwesterly wind, snow drift accumulations will form.

The fresh wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant and reach large size in isolated cases. This applies in particular on steep slopes, and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. The prevalence of the avalanche prone locations will increase during the night. Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released especially by large additional loads. Avalanches can also be released in the old snowpack and reach medium size in particular on steep shady slopes. Weak layers in the old snowpack are treacherous.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of falling temperatures a crust will form on the surface, in particular below approximately 2100 m. The more recent wind slabs are bonding only slowly with the old snowpack, in particular on steep slopes, and in gullies and bowls in particular at intermediate and high altitudes. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted. This applies in particular on steep east, north and west facing slopes,.

The wind will be moderate to strong. Slight increase in avalanche danger.
