Gradual increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of new snow and wind.

Some snow will fall in particular along the border with France and along the border with Switzerland. From early morning the wind will be strong at times in all regions. The sometimes deep wind slabs will be deposited on a crust in all aspects. The fresh wind slabs are bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. They can in some cases be released easily. This applies even in case of a single winter sport participant. The avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular on very steep slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain above approximately 2300 m. In the morning and where less new snow falls, the danger of falling on hard snow remains, so it is advisable to carry snow knives and crampons for the steeper sections.

Above approximately 2300 m a lot of snow is lying. Snow depths vary greatly at high altitude, depending on the infuence of the wind. As a consequence of the strong to storm force wind, a crust formed on the surface. This applies above approximately 2600 m. The snowpack is well consolidated and its surface has a melt-freeze crust that is strong in many cases. This applies below approximately 2600 m.

The avalanche danger will persist.
