Avalanche Summary

You can easily trigger an avalanche where you encounter thin slabs of wind-drifted snow above treeline. Most of these will be small but in some areas that get more snow they can grow large enough to bury you. You also might be able to trigger a larger avalanche that breaks on weak snow near the ground on shallow, rocky, north-facing slopes at upper elevations. You can find generally safe avalanche conditions on wind-sheltered slopes at lower elevations below treeline.
