Dangerous unstable slabs persist in avalanche terrain on all aspects at mid and upper elevations. These slabs lie upon weak faceted snow on Northerly aspects and crusts on Southerly aspects. Due to recent high winds and settlement, these slabs have become harder over the last week, and continue to be able to be triggered by backcountry users, and not necessarily by the first person on the slope. Yesterday the twelfth skier on a ridge remotely triggered a slide north of Little Tuckerman's and the third skier on a N.W. aspect of Mount Taylor was caught in a slide. On Saturday a fatality occurred from avalanche trauma near Ski Lake as a group made it's second run on steep terrain. A snowmobiler was also injured in an avalanche in Darby Canyon on Saturday. At low elevations avalanches are unlikely today. If significant sun and warming occur today slabs at all elevations will become more sensitive on steep sunlit aspects.
