Avalanche Summary

While avalanche danger on Grand Mesa is lower than surrounding areas, you can still trigger a dangerous avalanche. Avoid traveling across steep, open slopes, especially if they have cliffs or creeks below. Avalanche debris piles up deeply in creeks or can sweep you over the cliffs. You might see small avalanches on steep slopes above roads and trails or along river banks. Safer travel means avoiding slopes steeper than about 30 degrees, and paying attention to traps that increase the consequences of a slide.
