Avalanche Summary

Although most slopes are safe from avalanches, LOW danger doesn't mean no danger. If you encounter stiff wind-drifted snow that cracks as you travel across it on northeast-facing slopes above treeline, you should approach steep, consequential terrain with caution. These are the few places you might be able to trigger a small slab avalanche, and even small avalanches can be dangerous in extreme terrain. You can also trigger small loose avalanches on very steep north-facing slopes in wind-sheltered terrain, so be aware of terrain traps such as cliffs beneath you if you are on slopes steeper than about 40 degrees facing north.
