Highlights
At the mid and high elevations, isolated pockets of surface slab to one foot in depth lie in steep wind loaded terrain that could be human triggered today. Some potential also continues to trigger dangerous hard slabs up to ten feet in depth in very steep terrain, particularly in places where these slabs are not well supported such as areas in and above cliffs. At the low elevations, pockets of slab to two feet could be triggered in steep wind loaded avalanche paths.

A persistent northerly flow will continue to bring mainly light snow to the area. Several inches of accumulation are likely during the day and overnight. Temperatures will remain cold with highs only rising into the single digits. Northwest winds at 10 to 20 miles per hour will back to the west in the afternoon. The general avalanche hazard in the Teton Area is expected to increase to CONSIDERABLE at the upper elevations. Pockets of surface slab up to 18 inches deep are expected to be easily triggered by backcountry travelers on steep wind loaded slopes and in cliff areas. Deep slab instability persists. The potential remains for dangerous deep slab avalanche activity. The general avalanche hazard in the Togwotee Pass/Continental Divide Trails Area is expected to be MODERATE. Pockets of soft surface slab and deeper hard slabs lie upon a weak base of faceted snow. Humans venturing onto steep avalanche paths could trigger slab avalanches that may step down to the ground. Multiple passes across an unstable slope may be made before a weak point is encountered and a slope fails. The general avalanche hazard in the Greys River/Southwest Trails Area is expected to be CONSIDERABLE. Dangerous deep slabs lie upon a base of weak faceted snow. These slabs could be easily triggered by humans on steep slopes and could run full path. Additional loading by drifting snow could trigger natural avalanches.
