Avalanche Activity

Some new snow above approximately 2500 m. This is the final hazard map for the winter 2021/22.

10 to 20 cm of snow will fall until the evening above approximately 2500 m. As a consequence of the new snow loose snow slides are possible as the day progresses, even medium-sized ones. This applies in all aspects at intermediate and high altitudes, and on rocky slopes. As the day progresses the likelihood of moist and wet avalanches being released will increase a little in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality.

Snowpack Structure

In some localities up to 10 cm of snow, but less in some localities, has fallen since yesterday above approximately 2700 m. The surface of the snowpack will only just freeze, especially below approximately 2500 m. New snow is lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. The snowpack will be wet all the way through in particular on very steep sunny slopes, especially below approximately 2800 m. The old snowpack is unfavourably layered. In the last few days only a few small to medium-sized avalanches were reported. At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

In some localities light precipitation. The wind will be strong at times. The weather conditions will cause a slight rise in the avalanche danger especially at high altitude.
