Wet snow represents the main danger.
Wet snow represents the main danger.
Since Saturday the weather has been mild over a wide area. The surface of the snowpack will only just freeze and will soften quickly. Up to high altitudes rain will fall on Sunday over a wide area. Already in the early morning, a few wet avalanches are possible. As a consequence of the precipitation more frequent medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large moist and wet avalanches are possible. Backcountry tours should be concluded early.
As a consequence of sharply rising temperatures and rain up to high altitudes a sometimes critical avalanche situation will develop. The rain will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack in all aspects below approximately 2200 m. These conditions will cause a gradual weakening of the snowpack.
Over a wide area over a wide area 10 to 15 cm of snow will fall on Monday above approximately 2000 m. In the regions where the snowfall level is higher the danger will increase more quickly.
