Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh localised deposits of moderately bonded windslab will continue to build throughout the day, in steep wind sheltered locations, mainly on West to North aspects, largely above 700 metres. Terrain most affected will be tops of gullies, coire rims and ridge flanks. Better stability elsewhere. Old snow will be firm. Minor cornice growth expected. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Snow arriving post midnight and persisting thereafter, most intense around dawn and mid afternoon. The strong West wind will ease and back South, freshening ahead of the snow and continuing to back generally East pre dawn. The freezing level will rise from 450 metres overnight to 650 metres by midday, then 500 metres later. Observed Weather Influences: A fine morning deteriorated as a band of rain, sleet and snow arrived early afternoon. Light West winds strengthened through the day. The freezing level rose to around 650 metres midday. ObservedSnowStability: The snow cover is relatively shallow and has generally good stability throughout. However, poorer stability exists in pockets of windslab that have accumulated in steep North-East to South-East aspects at higher elevations. Minor cornice development noted above same aspects. The avalanche hazard is Low.
