Three times "Low" does not mean let your guard down. Take the time to exercise safe travel practises; ski your line one at a time, pay attention to and continue to avoid cornices, terrain traps, and other lingering hazards.

Weather Forecast

Depending which weather forecast you believe we could see 5-10cm today. I'm going with the hopeful 10cm. Alpine high of -15C and NE winds up into the moderate range are expected. Cold arctic air is forecast to push in overnight with an alpine high tomorrow of just -21C with light easterly winds.

Snowpack Summary

10-15cm of settled, faceted snow resides on old wind slabs in sheltered areas. Moderate to strong winds have deposited thin wind slabs on exposed terrain features at ridge-top and exposed areas BTL. A crust on steep solar aspects makes for difficult traveling conditions, both uphill and down. The mid and lower snowpack is well settled and strong.

Avalanche Summary

Two size 1 skier accidental wind slabs were reported on MIN Wednesday one from the Thorington route. The second was a skier accidental involvement size 1 in Cougar Creek East with enough mass to nock the skier over.

Wind Slabs

Wind Slab avalanches are the release of a cohesive layer of snow (a slab) formed by the wind. Wind typically transports snow from the upwind sides of terrain features and deposits snow on the downwind side. Wind slabs are often smooth and rounded and sometimes sound hollow, and can range from soft to hard. Wind slabs that form over a persistent weak layer (surface hoar, depth hoar, or near-surface facets) may be termed Persistent Slabs or may develop into Persistent Slabs.
