Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will continue to develop with steep wind sheltered features on mainly North through East to South aspects above 800 metres most affected. Unstable cornices will also form above these aspects. Isolated pockets of unstable snow may be encountered elsewhere and at lower levels. Areas exposed to the strong winds will be scoured with old snow firm and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Remaining cold with new snowfall overnight but expected to be dry during the day. Strong winds throughout the day, generally veering from the South-West to the North-West by the end of the day. Observed Weather Influences: Overnight the Northerly winds backed Southerly, gale to storm force in strength. Snow showers, heavy at times throughout the day at all levels. ObservedSnowStability: Due to significant redistribution of existing deposits and snowfall, rapidly forming unstable windslab is developing in sheltered terrain on North-West through North-East to Easterly aspects above 800m. Any wind sheltered features are affected, many with fragile cornices forming above. Also, isolated instabilities persist on South-East through South-West to West aspects above 900 metres. Deep drifts have formed from low levels with exposed terrain scoured. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
