By far the biggest concern today is an avalanche that breaks into old buried weak layers of sugar snow. There are a couple of layers of concern but it's not important to try to dissect them. What's important is that:
- We know they are there.
- Two feet of new snow was just stacked on top of them. There is much more snow than that in areas where the wind has been drifting it.
- There were human triggered avalanches on Friday breaking into old weak snow.
- Reports of collapsing on Friday indicate these buried persistent weak layers are unstable.
It is not the time to recreate on any steep slopes.
