Avalanche Activity

In particular at elevated altitudes sometimes deep wind slabs formed. Increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of new snow and wind.

The wind slabs have bonded quite well with the old snowpack in particular on sunny slopes. The fresh wind slabs can in some places be released by a single winter sport participant, but they will be small in most cases. They are clearly recognisable. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls. In particular on very steep slopes and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls individual small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized natural avalanches are possible as a consequence of new snow and wind.

Snowpack Structure

10 to 20 cm of snow fell on Friday above approximately 2200 m. New snow is lying on a hard crust. The sometimes strong wind has transported the new snow significantly. The cold fresh snow of yesterday and the sometimes deep wind slabs have bonded quite well with the old snowpack. The old snowpack is well consolidated. Less snow than usual is lying. On sunny slopes below approximately 2300 m from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying. Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on steep northeast, north and northwest facing slopes. Since yesterday several mostly small avalanches occurred naturally. Isolated mostly small dry slab avalanches have been released. This applies even in case of a single winter sport participant in some cases.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
