Avalanche Activity

Down to 1200 m snow has fallen in some regions. The fresh snow and the large wind slabs represent the main danger.

The new snow and wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence especially on north to northeast to northwest facing aspects. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in north to northeast to northwest facing aspects and on wind-loaded slopes. Whumpfing sounds and the formation of shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack serve as an alarm indicating the danger.

Snowpack Structure

On Saturday the wind slabs will increase in size additionally. The snowpack remains unfavourable in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls.
