Highlights

Avalanche danger is LOW. The only substantial snowpack in the forecast area exists above 8,000 ft on Mount Shasta. Prepare for cold temperatures, low wind chills, and firm conditions if ascending Mount Shasta. Significant snow starts this weekend.

Avalanche Discussion

A well-consolidated base of snow with a variety of surface textures exists above 8,000 ft on Mount Shasta. There is no usable snow elsewhere in the forecast area.

If ascending Mount Shasta in the near future be prepared for firm snow, cold temperatures, and low wind chills. Crampons, an ice axe, and a helmet are mandatory if climbing steep terrain. Expect ski-chattering sliding conditions.
