Kananaskis.
Wind, wind, wind. Wind slabs in the alpine are reactive to skier traffic. If any of these are triggered, the whole snow pack might release.
Another windy day for Monday with strong SW winds in the alpine. Temperatures will hover around -12c, along with flurries for most of the day. Outlook for for Tuesday and Wednesday is snow. At this time the weather models are not in agreement for amounts, so stay tuned.....
No new avalanches were observed. The forecasters are giving a wide birth for overhead hazard as large naturals were still occurring as recently as Saturday.
The strong SW winds are continuing now for the fourth day. Expect wind slabs up to 40cm thick in the alpine and exposed areas of tree line. This continued transport of snow is only adding more load to the snow pack and the weak basal layers. This is still a concern for areas that have not avalanched.
