Avalanche Activity

Moist and wet avalanches are the main danger.

Until Saturday the weather will be mostly sunny. The weather will be mild. The somewhat older wind slabs are to be found adjacent to ridgelines on northwest, north and northeast facing slopes and at high altitudes. These can be released, even by small loads in isolated cases. As the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day there will be a gradual increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches. Backcountry tours should be concluded timely.

Snowpack Structure

The weather conditions will cause a weakening of the snowpack. The snowpack is moist and its surface has a melt-freeze crust that is strong in many cases. This applies in particular on steep sunny slopes above the tree line. The surface of the snowpack will soften during the day.
