In many areas, the snowpack has become weak, but until there is a load of new snow conditions will remain mostly stable. Avalanche activity today will be isolated to small pockets of wind slabs on steep slopes at the mid and upper elevations. Strong westerly to southwesterly winds are transporting any loose snow and forming these fresh wind slabs. Although these slab avalanches will be small, they have the potential to knock someone off their feet and have high consequences in extreme terrain. In all other areas, avalanche activity is unlikely. Backcountry travelers should use safe travel protocols of traveling one at a time through avalanche terrain and carry rescue gear.

Very light snowfall is expected to continue overnight with limited accumulation. By morning, cloud cover should lessen to partly cloudy. Temperatures in both the mountains and the valleys will start in the single digits and then climb into the twenties during the day. Winds will veer to the northwest at 15 to 25 miles per hour.The avalanche hazard is still Low in all the forecast areas as the snowpack is mostly stable. At the upper elevations in steep terrain, skiers and riders could encounter isolated pockets of wind slab that will be less than a foot in depth. These slabs will be small but in extreme terrain could have high consequences. Everywhere else avalanche activity is unlikely.
