Highlights

Avalanches are unlikely and avalanche concerns are limited. It’s been a week since the last reported slab avalanches anywhere in our region and over two weeks since the last substantial snowfall. Cover your bases by continuing to carry avalanche rescue gear, going one at a time on steep slopes and having a partner watching from a safe spot.

Avalanche Discussion

The avalanche danger is LOW across our advisory area. Avalanches are unlikely and avalanche concerns are limited. It’s been a week since the last reported slab avalanches and over two weeks since the last substantial snowfall.

In places where it snowed a couple inches on Tuesday (chiefly upper elevations in Hyalite and near Cooke City), keep your eyes open for any fresh wind slabs. They should be shallow and confined to the highest ridgelines, but are still worth looking for, especially if you are heading into terrain where a small slide would have big consequences.

While avalanches are unlikely, they are not entirely impossible. Cover your bases by continuing to carry avalanche rescue gear, going one at a time on steep slopes and having a partner watching from a safe spot.
