Stability: poor · Frequency: some
Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. Faceted weak layers exist deeper in the old snowpack on shady slopes.
Increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of the snowfall. This applies in particular towards the evening.
The fresh snow as well as the wind slabs represent the main danger.
Down to low altitudes snow will fall from early morning. The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases in all aspects and generally at intermediate and high altitudes. The wind slabs are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility. Careful route selection and spacing between individuals are recommended.
