Some snow will fall until midday. As a consequence of snowfall and the strong northwesterly wind, the snow drift accumulations will increase in size in the late morning. Especially on very steep slopes and on wind-loaded slopes medium-sized and large natural dry avalanches are possible. In some places the avalanches can be triggered in deep layers of the snowpack and reach very large size in some cases. In the typical avalanche paths in these regions the avalanches can as before reach as far as the valley bottom. The conditions are treacherous for backcountry touring and other off-piste activities outside marked and open pistes. Remotely triggered avalanches are possible. Single winter sport participants can release avalanches, including large ones. Caution is to be exercised on steep slopes, and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain.
Over a wide area 50 to 80 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Sunday above approximately 1500 m. Over a wide area 5 to 15 cm of snow will fall on Wednesday above approximately 1300 m. Until Wednesday the wind will be strong over a wide area over a wide area. The fresh snow as well as the sometimes large wind slabs are in some cases still prone to triggering. The snowpack is unfavourably layered. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Some large powder avalanches have been released as the day progresses. Several slab avalanches have been released in the last few days.
