As a consequence of warming during the day and the solar radiation, the likelihood of slab avalanches being released will increase also on steep sunny slopes at elevated altitudes. Small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized wet loose snow avalanches are possible above approximately 2000 m. Backcountry tours and off-piste skiing should be started and concluded early. Avalanches can in some cases be released in the old snowpack and reach quite a large size on west, north and east facing slopes. This applies even in case of a single winter sport participant in some cases. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular above approximately 2000 m. Caution is to be exercised in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example.
The snowpack is unfavourably layered and its surface has a melt-freeze crust that is strong in many cases. As a consequence of high temperatures and solar radiation a treacherous avalanche situation will develop. These conditions will cause a weakening of the snowpack in gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in terrain. This applies in particular on steep south, southwest and west facing slopes above the tree line.
