Avalanche problems

  • New snow

    • Above 2,400 m

Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs at intermediate and high altitudes.

In particular along the border with France some new snow to intermediate altitudes. The mostly small wind slabs can be released in some cases in particular on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2300 m. This applies in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas in particular at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised as well in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow will be deposited on bare ground over a wide area. This applies in particular on sunny slopes, as well as at low and intermediate altitudes. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. The old snowpack remains generally stable.
