Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs require caution.

The fresh and older wind slabs can be released even by a single winter sport participant in particular on west to north to east facing aspects above approximately 2400 m. In high Alpine regions the avalanche prone locations are present in all aspects. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Avalanches can reach medium size, in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation in particular at elevated altitudes and. As a consequence of the new snow more frequent mostly small loose snow avalanches are to be expected, especially in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation. Only isolated gliding avalanches are possible. This applies on steep grassy slopes below approximately 2600 m. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 10 to 20 cm of snow has fallen. Up to 25 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall. The wind will be moderate to strong. The fresh wind slabs will be deposited on soft layers at elevated altitudes. They are prone to triggering in particular on west to north to east facing aspects.

Tendency

The weather conditions will foster a gradual stabilisation of the snow drift accumulations.
