Highlights

In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the icy crust.

Avalanche Activity

In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the icy crust.

The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust and will hardly soften at all. It is advisable to bring a snow knife and crampon with you for the steeper sections. As the temperature drops hardly any more natural avalanches are possible. Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found especially on very steep shady slopes in high Alpine regions.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack will be generally stable. In the Prealps as well as at low altitude no snow is lying. Also in neighbouring regions less snow than usual is lying.

Tendency

Over a wide area a lot of new snow to below approximately 1500 m. The avalanche danger will increase significantly during the day.
