Large quantities of fresh snow and the wind-drifted snow of the weekend represent the main danger. At intermediate and high altitudes the situation is very dangerous.

Over a wide area 80 to 120 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell in the last few days above approximately 2000 m. The large quantity of fresh snow of the weekend as well as the wind slabs formed during the snowfall can be released easily or naturally above approximately 1900 m. Already many large and, in isolated cases, very large dry and wet avalanches have been released on Monday. As a consequence of falling temperatures, the natural avalanche activity will gradually decrease. Some large and, in isolated cases, very large natural avalanches are, however, further not ruled out. They can occur in particular in starting zones where previous releases have taken place. Ski touring and other off-piste activities, including snowshoe hiking, call for great caution and restraint.

As a consequence of snowfall and the strong easterly wind, the snow drift accumulations have increased in size at the weekend. New snow is lying on soft layers. This snow is poorly bonded with the old snowpack in many places. In some places new snow is lying on a moist old snowpack.

The avalanche danger will decrease gradually. Tuesday: Some new snow to above approximately 900 m.
