As a consequence of new snow and a moderate to strong wind from southeasterly directions, sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs will form in the course of the day. The wind slabs are bonding poorly with the old snowpack at intermediate and high altitudes. The avalanche prone locations are to be found on very steep slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. In particular at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions these avalanche prone locations are more widespread and the danger is slightly greater. They can be released easily in some places. Medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large avalanches are possible.

Wednesday: 20 to 40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall until the afternoon above approximately 1500 m. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on soft layers. In the western part of the northern flank of the Alps, along the border with France in some regions 10 cm of snow fell on Saturday. The wind was strong. The weather was cold. A lot of snow is lying at intermediate and high altitudes. The old snowpack is favourably layered.

The avalanche danger will persist.
