You can trigger an avalanche on steep slopes where you find more than about a foot of new snow. The most dangerous slopes are where southeasterly wind drifted additional snow onto northerly slopes. In these areas, avalanches can grow large enough to bury you. If you notice cracking in the snow around your feet stick to slopes less than around 35 degrees or move to a different slope. Wind-sheltered terrain at lower elevations offer safer travel options.
